Lava Horses
Just south of Húsavík, on the historic family farm Hraunkot — meaning “a small house in the lava” — Lava Horses invites you to explore Iceland’s natural beauty on horseback. The farm has been home to the same family for over 200 years, where generations have lived in harmony with the rugged lava landscape and cultivated the land with care and respect for nature.
Lava Horses is a family-run company offering guided horseback riding tours through the scenic countryside around Hraunkot, including lava fields, meadows, and coastal trails. Guests can also explore the farm’s homemade handicrafts, made from local materials.
Founded in 2010, the company now cares for around 20 Icelandic horses, most of them bred and trained on-site. Each tour reflects the family’s passion for nature, tradition, and sharing the peaceful rhythm of rural Icelandic life.
